Gun Loving Liberal strongly supports the rights of law abiding gun owners in America. Liberal values and enthusiasm for responsible firearm ownership are not mutually exclusive. It is our Constitutional right to Keep and bear arms. By taking a broad anti-firearms stance, the mainstream Democratic Party has alienated millions of law-abiding gun owners (voters!) in the United States of America. This broad, ignorant attitude toward gun ownership has given the Republican Party a weapon of its own to use against liberal candidates. Republicans use this issue to drive a wedge between the Democratic Party and a demographic whose economic interests are most closely aligned with the Democratic Party.
Unfortunately, there is a great deal of misinformation and fear surrounding gun ownership. Gun owners have been stigmatized and shamed in liberal circles. We hope to provide more information about responsible gun ownership and we also want to share our enthusiasm for firearms as a means of self-defense and enjoyment. Look around the site to learn more about guns, ammunition, gun laws, gun safety, training and education, and your rights as a gun owner.
One of the goals of the Gun Loving Liberal site is to dispel myths, encourage and facilitate firearms education and promote responsible gun ownership. Education is the first step in dispelling fear and promoting open-minded exploration. In fact, the owners of this site are lobbying the NRA to send vouchers for free handgun safety training and range time to every anti-gunner Senator and Representative in the U.S. Congress.

So, if anyone was curious, here’s what I currently own – send me an email if you have any comments!
- Sig Sauer P226 – 9mm
- Smith & Wesson 686 6″ Barrel – .357 Magnum / .38 Special
- Les Baer Thunder Ranch Special 1911 Model – .45 ACP
- Glock 23 (compact) – .40 caliber
- Next gun purchase? Maybe a Remington 700 for outdoor target shooting. Thoughts?
Current home defense selection: S&W 686 revolver with .38 Special in a QuickSafe.
Rationale:
- Easy to operate in the dark
- Very low recoil
- Heavy enough to use as a blunt instrument, if necessary
- My wife can use it (she can’t pull the slide back on any of my semi-autos)
- There is less chance of the round traveling too far through my apartment complex (as there would be with the 9mm, in particular)
- Lower chance of misfire with a revolver
- I know I can hit my mark with this weapon
